The Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane was established in 1929. It is the oldest established Greek community in south-east Queensland. In south-east Queensland, the Greek descendant population numbers more than 25,000 people.
In addition to preserving the Greek Orthodox religion, the Community is proud to have built an organisation that provides support and services to the Greek and wider community. Community services include:
Other achievements of the Community include The Greek Club which was built over 35 years ago and hosts a major function venue and Taverna becoming a well known Brisbane establishment.
The Community is also host of Queensland’s largest community festival, “Paniyiri”, held over 2 days every May, Paniyiri attracts more than 65,000 people and showcases great Greek food, culture and entertainment.
